A Ray of Coloured Lights is emitted from his chest

In the city of Tong, two men went on a trip together.

On the journey back one of them passed away.

So, his friend buried him on the way.

He brought back the money and handed it to the deceased’s wife.

But the wife became suspicious.

He was extremely angry and went back to the burial ground, crying over this matter, complaining about the wrong accusation.

The deceased could even talk to him as if he was alive.

The ghost agreed to accompany him back as a witness.

On the way back, something happened and he started to recite Namo Amitabha Buddha once.

The ghost looked at him and shouted loudly,

‘Why are you emitting lights? Are you trying to frighten me?’

He recited a few more times and the ghosts became so frightened.

It said,

‘When you recite Namo Amitabha Buddha once, a ray of five coloured lights more than a hundred feet high is emitted from your chest.

You make me feel dizzy.

I cannot stand by your side now!

Please go back and tell my wife to come here personally. I will tell her the truth.

I will resolve this wrong accusation for you.’

The friend listened to this and he had an awakening.

He decided to put down this matter and left the homelife to become a monk, a high Sanghan.

Just by reciting Namo Amitabha Buddha once, the wheel of the Buddha’s lights appears.

That is why Great Master Shouchang said,

‘The mind that recite the Buddha’s Name is the Buddha.

It is not the case that we recite the Buddha’s Name now and wait for another time to accomplish Buddhahood!

It is pitiful that the ghost with little good roots has not heard of the Buddha’s Name before.

He got so frightened instead.

If he is an Amitabha reciter, he will surely attain a rebirth in the World of Ultimate Bliss instantly relying on this supreme cause and condition.

Our name is deleted from King Yama’s Register of Birth and Death

For an Amitabha reciter, his name is naturally deleted from King Yama’s register of birth and death.

His name will appear on the lotus in the World of Ultimate Bliss.

Relaxing, No Stress, Not much effort

03 That is it, just live as you are!!

Facing birth and death, seeking the liberation from birth and death, it is unnecessary for us to pretend to be so strong and great, like the way of a worldly life.

In our heart, we wish to rely on others but very often we act as though we are so capable, so efficient.

Facing the big issue of birth and death, we should let go of all our mundane knowledge, our worldly views and opinions, and the vague practice of a mundane man.

Let us rely totally on the Buddha’s strength.

We should only recite Namo Amitabha Buddha repeatedly.

On the road to Buddhahood, we only rely on Amitabha Buddha.

We give ourselves up to Amitabha Buddha and let him rescue us.

Just like a child we lie down in the six syllables Name, feeling secure and at ease.

We will recite Namo Amitabha Buddha the whole life.

By right, the way of life of an Amitabha reciter should be simple and quiet.

This is because we can lie down in the Name of Namo Amitabha Buddha to attain a rebirth, to accomplish Buddhahood.

This practice is relaxing, with no stress, without much effort.

The Pure Land Dharma Door is a Door where we can lie down to accomplish Buddhahood.

But still, there are people who cannot learn this simplicity.

They want to add in their own colours.

They feel that they should be more hardworking.

They refuse to give up this important matter of attaining a rebirth to Amitabha Buddha.

They feel that they should reach certain level of achievement to be qualified for a rebirth.

As such these people have transformed the Easy Dharma Door into a Difficult Path.

Truly speaking, we should put down all the pretentions.

All the sufferings and obstacles on the path of practice have already been fully cleared by Amitabha Buddha.

All the karmic debts we have created throughout the many long Kalpas of transmigration are fully paid.

What we need to do now is to take refuge in Namo Amitabha Buddha, to call Namo Amitabha Buddha earnestly with great sincerity.

Calmly we just sit on Amitabha Buddha’s ship of Magnificent Vows, the Name of the six syllables.

Naturally we will attain a rebirth to accomplish Buddhahood.

t is that simple and relaxing.

Simply recite Namo Amitabha Buddha like a simpleton enables us to attain a rebirth in the Pure  Land, to accomplish Buddhahood.

Let us lead a mundane life and recite Namo Amitabha Buddha.

Reciting Namo Amitabha Buddha and we live like a commoner.

We recite Namo Amitabha Buddha sincerely, eat the rice as usual and sleep in a relax manner.

Let our days pass by in this simplicity of wholesomeness until our arrival at the Pure Land.

Direct our mind to the West and recite Namo Amitabha Buddha exclusively, without doubts and hesitations.

By relying on the strength of His Vows, we are sure of our rebirth!

We do not have to report to King Yama!

No matter how calm a man can be, when he is travelling on a bus, a moving vehicle, can he still maintain his calmness, can he still dwell in concentration?

In most cases, when the vehicle is moving, the mind also starts to move.

This is the same for a mundane man who says he is sitting in meditation, or dwells in Samadhi.

If he is still bound by ignorance, that he is still travelling on the train of transmigration in the six paths, he will still have to report to the King Yama.

This is because the train of Karmic force will pull him to the Dark realm.

But for those who have taken refuge in Amitabha Buddha, we are coming down from the train of Karmic force.

Even though we do not sit in meditation, we do not dwell in Samadhi, but our mind is calm at ease.

We do not have to report to King Yama anymore.

This is because we are standing on the Great Earth of the six syllables.

When we are re citing Namo Amitabha Buddha, our mind is still running here and there.

We are not dwelling in Samadhi.

As we cultivate Amitabha recitation, we who do not have Samadhi will still dwell in Samadhi.

If we do not recite Namo Amitabha Buddha, we say we are in Samadhi but actually we do not have any Samadhi.

So, do not admire others’ Samadhi.

This is because Amitabha recitation is the ‘Karma of Right Concentration’.

This is because of the supremacy of this Dharma Door.

We are talking from the angle of the Dharma Body.

1.🌷My beloved father said:

It does not matter whether you know or not, I have decided to save you.

I have long brought forth the Vows for your sake.

I have cultivated on your behalf, to accomplish your Flower of Proper Enlightenment.

I do understand this:

It does not matter where I am now,

or all the places where I have wandered before,

I still believe firmly,

that the lotus in my hometown has already bloomed.

One day, you will surely come forth to welcome me.

2.🌷My beloved father said:

It does not matter whether you have faith or no faith,

as long as you recite my Name,

you are able to leave the Saha World,

I do realize:

Whether I can see you or cannot see you,

I firmly believe that you are always by my side.

Silently you take care of me,

3. My belove father said:

It does not matter whether you want to come back or not,

I am always at the homeland,

waiting for your return for ten kalpas.

I use my Name to call upon you,

I use my lights to look for you.

I have been waiting for you for ten kalpas, just because I know one day you will hear my Name.

I do understand:

Whether I have or have not heard your Name, in the ten Kalpas,

you have already entered my mind,

to ripen my good roots.

You enable me to open up the door in my mind,

to hear your calls,

to recite your Name.

3

4. My beloved father said:

It does not matter whether you want to recite my Name or not,

I will still stay in my Name,

waiting for you, quietly.

I will wait for you until the day when you wish to leave the seas of sufferings.

I will wait for you to take the big ship of my Name,

to sail at ease in the Dharma Realm.

I do realize this: It does not matter whether I can or cannot

understand,

I can simply recite your Name like a simpleton.

This will enable me to travel on your ship of Great Vows,

to return to my homeland of Serenely Blissful,

in the west.

I will travel all at ease

in the sea-like assemblies in the ponds of lotuses.

4

🌸🌸🌱🌷🌸🌸🌱🌷🌸🌸🌱🌷🌸

5. My beloved father said:

It does not matter whether you know or not,

whether you can understand or not,

whether you believe or not,

I am always staying in the Name to call on you,

to wait for you, to protect you, to gather you into my household,

until you leave the transmigrations in the six paths,

to return to the embrace of your home in the Land of Ultimate Bliss.

5

🌸🌸🌱🌷🌸🌸🌱🌷🌸🌸🌱🌷🌸

I do understand this:

It does not matter where I am,

in whatever paths, good or evil paths,

with sins or blessings, pure or defiled,

you will never renounce me.

You will love me preciously, waiting for me to come home.

I do realize:

No matter how, your Great Vows resemble the Vajra.

You will never change your mind of rescuing me.

You have been thinking of me for ten Great Kalpas,

without changing, without renouncing me,

forever.

It does not matter at whatever time, place or conditions,

your lights are always with me,

to protect me, to ripen me, to gather me in.

I understand that in this life I have heard your calling,

I have listened to your wonderful dharma,

I have been reciting your Name.

All these happen not because I have any wisdom,

not because I have any cultivation.

All these happen because I am your child.

無論如何,您的大願猶如金剛,為了度我,永不改變;

您對我的憶念,十劫不變,永不舍離;

🌸🌸🌱🌷🌸🌸🌱🌷🌸🌸🌱🌷🌸

Your only aim is to rescue me from the suffering seas,

to bring me back to the Seas of Great Jewels, the merits and virtues which are accomplished by you.

I do know this that I only have to recite your Name without any sophistication.

Then this will be my last life.

In this life I will only be looking forward for your arrival,

to receive me with the lotus.

In this life I am waiting for my lotus to bloom in the lotus pond.

In this life I am waiting for our reunion

after the passing by of so manyg Kalpas.

Namo Amitabha Buddha

Short Teachings by Dharma Master Shi Hui Jing-1

1

🌈Suffering losses.  Blessings and rewards🌈【

By Dharma Master Shi Hui Jing ❣️

☘️In the Analects of Confucius, the section on Yan Yuan there is this teaching:

☘️A humane man is more reserved in his words as he will subdue his mind before speaking.

☘️A gentleman will ponder over his words before they come out from his mouth.

Out of kindness he does not wish to harm others’ feelings.

☘️A kind man is careful with words for he feels it is very unkind to talk about the right and wrong of others, the good and bad of others.

☘️As such, such a good man will not fight with others over trivial matters as he is willing to take the loss.

❣️🌈A man who is genuinely willing to take a loss is surely a blessed and wise man. 🌈❣️

☘️A man who is too calculative in all matters reveals his lacking of blessings.

He is without wisdom.

☘️If we are willing to take a loss, it means we are given the free gifts of blessed rewards!

☘️Without these people who take advantage of us, where else do we have a chance to take a loss?

☘️If we are unwilling to take a loss,

☘️that we would like to fight and argue over who is right and who is wrong,

☘️who is reasonable who is unreasonable,

☘️this is truly pitiful because our blessings are gone!

☘️That is why, we should learn to take a loss in all matters, all situations.

☘️And by admitting our inability, we naturally will learn of our own mistakes.

☘️We will surely understand the love of Amitabha Buddha.

☘️We are willing to take a loss and do not bother to fight and argue with others.

☘️We will surely wish to sacrifice our own benefits for the good of others.

☘️We will learn to contribute to others in accordance with our ability, capability, as much as possible.

❤️沒有智慧;

Bringing forth the Vows by Great Master Shandao.

Explained by Venerable Master Shi Hui Jing

🌸💜💮🧡🌿🌼🌸💜💮🧡🌿🌼🌸

This is the verse of bringing forth the Vows by Great Master Shandao.

We can recite them after reciting Namo Amitabha Buddha in the morning and evening services.

🌼May these merits and virtues be bestowed upon all living beings equally. 🌼

🌼May all bring forth the Bodhi Mind together, to attain a rebirth in the Land of Serenely Blissful.🌼

🌸💮🧡🌸💮🧡🌸💮🧡🌸💮🧡🌸

These verses of transference are the Transference of Merits by Amitabha Buddha.

May these merits and virtues be bestowed upon all living beings refer the kind Vows of Amitabha Buddha.

He transferred all his accumulated merits and virtues equally to all living beings in the ten directions.

‘May all bring forth the Bodhi mind together. ‘

The Bodhi mind here refers to the mind to accomplish Buddhahood.

The attainment of a rebirth enables one to accomplish Buddhahood.

So, the Vow to wish for a rebirth in the Pure Land is the Bodhi Mind in the Pure Land Dharma Door, no other Bodhi Mind is needed.

On listening to Amitabha Buddha’s rescue and we are willing to attain a rebirth,

That is our Bodhi Mind. Namo Amitabha Buddha

‘Attaining a rebirth in the Land of Serenely Blissful. ‘

Reciting Namo Amitabha Buddha enables us to attain a rebirth in the World of Ultimate Bliss,

A Land which is peaceful, happy, with no transmigration.

That is a Blissful Land which is free from all sufferings.

So, it is called the Land of Serenely Blissful.

💖Namo Amitabha Buddha💖

Let Amitabha Buddha take care of Your Child!

Shen Yun is a little girl who is about ten years old.

She is a very fortunate child as she has started reciting Namo Amitabha Buddha since she was still a baby.

After giving birth to her, her mother would soothe her to sleep by reciting Namo Amitabha Buddha as a lullaby.

So, she also started reciting Amitabha Buddha as a cradle song.

but as she was too young she could only recite two syllables, A Bha, A Bha.

As she grows up, she continues to recite Namo Amitabha Buddha while she is playing toys or watching television.

This is the way our young girl reciting Buddha’s Name.

It is impossible for her to sit still to call on the Buddha.

But do not be misled, saying that this way of Amitabha recitation is useless, is not effective.

Indeed, Amitabha Buddha is the kind and compassionate Buddha.

As long as you are willing to recite His Name, no matter how you recite it is effective!

Reciting Amitabha Buddha like Shen Yun is also effective.

At the age of three, she had a dream of Amitabha Buddha.

When she woke up, she told her mother, ‘Mummy, I dreamt of Amitabha Buddha just now. He brought me to play with all the bodhisattvas who were standing behind him.’

Amitabha Buddha asked her what toys she would like to have. He wanted to give her.

Little children are very innocent and she listed out all the toys she would like to have.

Amitabha Buddha did not despise her, instead he patted her head gently.

She continued to say,

‘All the birds in the World of Ultimate Bliss are able to recite Namo Amitabha Buddha.’

She said that when they recited Namo Amitabha Buddha, lotuses will appear.

From then onwards she was more persistent in Amitabha recitation.

As usual, all children enjoy playing games.

After this dream, she has changed a bit and recited more often.

Talking until here, I would like to commend on some parents who feel that it is not good for their children to recite the Buddha’s Name at a young age.

They feel this is not good.

In fact, parents cannot stay by the side of their children the whole life.

Let’s not discuss the whole life.

When they reach the age of twenties or thirties, it would be more difficult to see them, to spend time with them.

Am I right?

The best way is to let Amitabha Buddha take care of them.

This is the best way to safe guard their life.

Why do I say this?

Take a look at Shen Yun.

At the age of eight, one day she was walking alone to cross a road.

Suddenly she was knocked down by a cargo lorry.

She fell on the road and rolled to the side of the road.

On listening to this, many of us would feel that she would be injured or killed.

But this eight-year girl was not injured at all.

There was not even the slightest wound.

She told us that when she was knocked down by the lorry, she saw Amitabha Buddha was holding her hand.

She was enveloped in his lights as she felt warmed and soft.

That is why she was safe and sound.

Other than this, it is impossible to explain why she was not injured even though she was knocked down by the lorry.

This is the first time.

After one year, she was nine and one day she was travelling with her mother on a motorbike.

This time, they collided with a car and fell down.

Shen Yun saw Amitabha Buddha brought along a group of Bodhisattvas.

He was standing on the ground, carrying her in his arm so that she would not be injured.

We can see the Kindness and Compassion of Amitabha Buddha is truly inconceivable!

This was told by a child and it was impossible for her to create a story.

Anyway, she faced two road accidents and she was still safe and sound.

We can see this is the strength of the Buddha which protects and takes care of her.

These are the merits and virtues in Amitabha recitation.

Yet, there are people who still complain the Name itself does not have enough merits and virtues.

I am still wondering how could people talk like this!

Namo Amitabha Buddha

A story told by Dharma Master Shi Jing Ben in his teaching on Amitabha Buddha Sutra (serial number :24).

Amitabha Buddha brought Jing Ru to see his Residence.

Honourable Dharma Master Jing Zong. I am most grateful and here I am in obeisance to the Venerable Master. Thank you. Venerable.

We are able to cultivate Amitabha Recitation exclusively after listening to the Dharma Instructions of Dharma Master Shi Jing Zong.

We are most grateful.

Without him, we will still be cultivating like a blind man, using lots of efforts, walking down many wrong roads.

Only now I feel so relax.

All the doubts and hesitations which I experienced before, all the uneasy and unsettled feelings about my practice, are gone.

Now, I truly understand the meaning of dwelling in Samadhi.

My mind will not be moved or affected by any words anymore because my mind is dwelling on the six syllables, Namo Amitabha Buddha.

And I truly experience the tastes of Dharma Bliss.

I feel very free at ease.

Only now I understand the meaning of genuine truth.

As it is the Truth, it can be understood clearly.

As it is the genuine Truth, it must be simple.

Namo Amitabha Buddha!

I would like to report to Shifu some good news:

Our friend, Upasika Fo Ping who is from the small stony river at Xin Jiang, has a twelve years old granddaughter, Wang Jing Ru.

On Sunday, the 9th of Decemeber, 2007, five minutes after four pm, she suddenly told her grandmother, ‘Grandma, I want to go to the World of Ultimate Bliss.’

Grandmother said, ‘Fine. No problem. You can go.’

She asked, ‘How to go there?’

Grandmother said, ‘Sit down and face the west. Close your eyes, place your palms together and seek Amitabha Buddha to come and take you there.’

Jing Ru followed her grandmother’s instructions.

Then Fo Ping turned to Amitabha Buddha and made obeisance.

She said, ‘Amitabha Buddha, my grand-daughter wants to go to the Western World of Ultimate Bliss. Kindly take her there please, thank you!’

After saying this, she recited Namo Amitabha Buddha softly.

At the same time, she continued to pluck the leaves on the cotton wool.

She would steal a glance at her grand-daughter once a while.

After a while, the granddaughter opened her eyes.

She asked, ‘So, did you go there?’

Her grand-daughter answered, ‘I am back!’

‘So fast?’

It was only nine minutes after four pm.

Granddaughter said, ‘What do you mean it is fast? I felt a long time has passed by!’

Grandmother asked quickly, ‘Oh! You have been to the Western World of Ultimate Bliss. Be quick, tell grandma what you have seen, what you have heard!’

Excitedly her grand-daughter said, ‘At the beginning, I saw two giant colourful clouds apper.

When the clouds disperse, I saw a high and magnificent golden Jewel Hall.

Above the Jewel Hall, right in the middle are Buddha Images.

There are two giant golden pillars on both side of the Hall.

On one side is a dragon and another side is the phoenix.

I entered the big hall and took a look.

Amitabha Buddha was teaching the Dharma to so many Buddhas, Bodhisattvas.

All of them look exactly like Amitabha Buddha.

I do not see any woman.

Amitabha Buddha is so tall.

When I arrived at the World of Ultimate Bliss, I also felt that I have grown taller.

But when I tried to see the face of Amitabha Buddha, I had to stretch and raise my head higher so that I can see his face.

When I entered the hall, Amitabha Buddha immediately asked me to take a seat.

But the seats are so high and I cannot even reach them.

So, Amitabha Buddha gave me a lower chair.

Guan Shi Yin Pusa brought along his vase in one hand and a poplar twig in another hand.

He used the twig to sprinkle some water from the vase on my body.

I can feel it.

After this, Guan Yin Pusa asked me,

‘Do you want to come to this world? Do recite Namo Amitabha Buddha diligently.’

Then Amitabha Buddha said to me, ‘Come, let me show you the place where I stay.’

On reaching at his residence and I took a look!

Oh! Such a tall and magnificent house.

It is so beautiful as it is shiny all over.

In our world, I think the tallest building is still incomparable to its height.

On entering the house of Amitabha Buddha, I have to walk pass four layers of curtains.

When we arrive at the curtain, it will open up by itself.

After entering, it closes up by itself.

There is nothing in the room. It is all empty.

Amitabha Buddha asked me what I would like to eat and I answered, ‘Anything will do.’

Before I have finished talking, a table with a variety of food is set before me.

There are many types of cakes and pastry, vegetables and others.

It is truly delicious. I am still full.’

Amitabha Buddha asked,’ Have you finished eating?’

I answered, ‘Yes, I do.’

When I have finished answering him, all the table and food are gone.

The Buddha knew that I would like to have a piano and he said,

‘So, you want to learn piano. Here is one for you.’

Before my eyes, I could see the piano. I was really excited.

After a while, Amitabha Buddha said again, ‘Let us go to take a look at the Seven Jewels Pond.’

When we arrive at the Seven Jewels Pond, I saw lots of lotuses with a variety of colours, such as red, yellow, green, white, dark green, purple and others.

Some bloom fully while others are half opened.

Besides there are lots of lotus buds.

Quickly I asked, ‘Amitabha Buddha, is my grandma’s lotus here?’

Amitabha Buddha stretched out his hand and the lotus of my grandmother was before me.

My grandmother’s lotus is much bigger than mine.

She has three lotus seeds while I only have two.

I also saw the lotus of Grandma Kang.

‘How do you know that is Grandma Kang’s lotus?’

‘Her name is on her lotus.

Grand ma Fo Kang’s lotus is of mixed colours. Her lotus has more lotus seeds than Grandma and her flower is much bigger.’

I also saw the water in the Seven Jewels Pond with a golden bottom.

The water is especially clear. The surrounding of the ponds is shiny with all kinds of colourful gems.

I also saw the Jewel Trees beside the Seven Jewels Ponds.

On top of the golden trunk and silver branches shiny bells of various colours are hung.

The music they produce is the wonderfully beautiful.

On the trees there are lots of flowers and fruits.

The tree trunk is so huge.

I am not sure if it can fully be surrounded by thousands of people.

The tree is so tall and big.

I do not think I can find such a big tree in this world.

Anyway, the World of Ultimate Bliss is truly beautiful.

It is a golden world and it is so clean, not a dust can be found.

After visiting the surroundings, Amitabha Buddha asked me,

‘What do you think, is this a nice world?’

I answered, ‘Oh, very, very good.’

‘Fine. Do you want to come to this world?’

I answered, ‘Yes, it is such a beautiful world. Of course, I would, like to come here!’

Amitabha Buddha said,

‘In that case, you should call my Name.

When the time comes, I will surely come to welcome you.’

After saying this, Amitabha Buddha sent me back.

On our arrival at the door, Amitabha Buddha asked again, ‘Can you remember my words? That you must call my magnificent Name of six syllables, Namo Amitabha Buddha!’

Namo Amitabha Buddha, Shifu! Shifu!

You have saved our wisdom life!

If we do not recite Namo Amitabha Buddha, we are truly being ungrateful to Amitabha Buddha, ungrateful to the Great Virtuous Patriarchs and Shifu!’

Shifu, truly speaking, I think this is arranged by Amitabha Buddha so as to calm down the mind of Amitabha reciters who are staying here.

Here in the small stony river, the people are divided into two groups after listening to your Dharma instructions in March.

One group is represented by me, that is we will recite Namo Amitabha Buddha exclusively.

We will also carry out good deeds in accord with situations.

We take Amitabha recitation as priority.

Other good deeds are considered secondary.

Another group is headed by three people who insist that without abiding by the precepts, it is impossible to attain a rebirth.

They say we must tell people to carry out many deeds, besides abiding by the five precepts and the ten wholesome deeds.

Only then we can attain a rebirth in the western world of Ultimate Bliss.

It is impossible to attain a rebirth if we just recite Namo Amitabha Buddha without abiding by the precepts.

As such, many people here are confused by this type of teaching.

Shifu, what do you think, could it be the case that the little girl Jing Ru went to the World of Ultimate Bliss was arranged by Amitabha Buddha?

Shifu! Within half a month, a few accidents happened in this area.

But I feel that as we are sincere in our recitation of Amitabha Buddha, the ghosts and spirits are unable to disturb us.

It is true that we are protected by the Buddha and Bodhisattvas.

(This is an extract of the whole record.

The above incident was recorded by Fo Kang in Xing Jiang, at the small stony river.

We dare not commit false speech. 28th,December, 2007)

不然我们还在费力地瞎修,瞎行;

心里再没有以前这样修行不行,那样行不行;

The monkey style and the cat style in Amitabha Recitation

There is an analogy on the different styles of Amitabha recitation.

One of them is the monkey style while another is the cat style.

The ancients were good at giving analogies.

Indeed, it is easier for us to understand the analogies than the lengthy Sutra teachings.

Sometimes we cannot truly penetrate the meanings.

What is meant by reciting Namo Amitabha Buddha in the style of a monkey?

The mother monkey carries the baby monkey and it leaps and jumps from one tree to another.

The baby monkey does not have the ability to jump and leap on trees.

It depends totally on its mother.

The old monkey can jump swiftly, carrying the baby along. The baby has to clutch to its mother tightly.

But if it were to release his grasp, it would surely fall down.

So, we know the baby monkey depends solely on its mother to cross from one tree to another.

It must hold on to her tightly to avoid a fall.

This is the style of a monkey.

We say, ‘Of course we are relying on Amitabha Buddha to attain a rebirth in the Western Land. So, we must hold on to the name tightly! Or else we might fall down!’

So, from morning till night we recite continually.

This is one way.

Of course, such a man can also attain a rebirth.

There is no problem.

We only have to hold on to the Name tightly.

Another method is the cat style.

People who are observant will surely notice how the mother cat carrying its kitten, holding the kitten’s neck with its mouth.

The four paws of the kitten will be open and it is immovable.

It cannot hold on to anything.

It is unnecessary for him to catch hold of anything as it is the old cat which holds on to him, without letting go!

Finally, it is being transported from one location to another.

It only relies on the old cat to carry him, without doing anything.

This is known as gathering in without renouncing!

This is known as the cat style in Amitabha recitation.

In the 18th vows, we solely rely on Amitabha Buddha to rescue us.

Amitabha Buddha will gather us in, clutching all of us tightly, without letting go of His grip!

Dharma Teaching by Dharma Master Shi Jing Zong, the Abbot of Hong Yuan Monastery, Anhui, China

Dharma Words of Great Master Shandao (2)

2. Having faith in the Original Vows of Amitabha Buddha

1.

a. We truly believe that we are the sinful, evil mundane men.

Throughout the Long Kalpas we are sinking in transmigration, without a condition to leave sufferings.

b. We truly believe in the forty-eight Vows of Amitabha Buddha which are aiming to gather in all living beings without any doubts and hesitation.

By relying on His Strength of Vows we will surely attain a rebirth.

-the meaning of mixed good deeds

2.

Profoundly deep mind refers to the Genuine faith:

We believe that we are indeed the mundane men with lots of afflictions.

We are lacking in wholesome good roots. We transmigrate in the triple realm and we cannot leave the burning house.

Now we truly believe in the Original Vows of Amitabha Buddha, His magnificent Vows.

And if we recite His Name as few as ten times or one time and such like, we will attain a rebirth.

We do not doubt in this at all.

So, this is known as the profoundly deep mind.

-Verses of Praise in bowing and attaining a Rebirth

3.

Having only good faith, we harbour no doubt.

We will attain a rebirth relying on the Strength of the Buddha’s Vows.

4.

Contemplation is illumination.

We will always use the hand of a pure and faithful mind to carry the bright lights of Wisdom, to illuminate the proper reward, the supporting rewards and such matters in the Land of Amitabha Buddha. -Section on Hidden Meaning

5.

Sakyamuni Thus Come One is indeed our kind and compassionate parents.

By using all kinds of expedients, he enables us to bring forth the Mind of Unsurpassed faith.

– Verses of praise on Pratyutpanna Samadhi

6.

Amitabha the World Honoured One brought forth the profoundly deep Vows, that he will use his Name of bright illumination to subdue and transform all living beings in the ten directions.

We only have to bring forth a mind of good faith to recite the Buddha’s Name, to seek a rebirth.

– Verses of Praise on making obeisance to attain a rebirth

7.

At that moment, our terror is indescribable.

We are thinking in this way:

Going back now I will die. Staying here I will die too. Going forth I will die too.

No matter how, I cannot escape death.

I will just follow this path and walk on.

Since there is a road, I am sure I will be saved.

After thinking in this way, on the eastern shore suddenly I heard the voice of exhortation,

‘Humane One! You should be resolute to take this path. You will not face the disaster of death. But if you stay put, you will die.’

On the western shore a man is calling,

‘You walk straight on, single-mindedly with right mindfulness.

I am able to protect you.

You will be fearless as you will not fall into the disaster of water and fire.’

On hearing the exhortation and the calling, the man brings forth the proper mindfulness in body and mind as he has decided to walk this path resolutely. He has no doubts, nor fear as he will not retreat from this path.

8.

Most thankful to Sakyamuni Buddha for pointing out the Western World, sending us to the Pure Land.

On top of that we are told of the compassionate Amitabha Buddha’s call for us to return home.

Now, I have faith in the two Honoured Ones and I will act in accord with their wishes.

I am not afraid of the two rivers of water and fire.

In every thought, I will walk on the Path of His Vows, relying on the Buddha’s strength.

After passing away, I will be born in the Western Land to see the Buddha.

What an occasion of rejoicing it would be!

9.

My mind is replete with the profound faith which is as solid and firm as the Vajra.

It is not moved nor destroyed by all the deviant views, divergent knowledge, different explanations of different practices.

My mind is in one resolution, that I will walk straight on the Path.

-the Meaning of mixed wholesomeness-

10

Do not discuss if Amitabha Buddha wants to gather us in or not.

The whole issue lies in us, whether we are willing to return home, or unwilling.

As long as we are resolute in mind, that we want to go home, at our death bed, the flowery cover will surely come forth to welcome us.

11

Pervasively I exhort all the practitioners of the same practice who have affinity to direct your mind to recite Namo Amitabha Buddha exclusively.

Do not doubt this, please.

12

Suddenly I think of the Bliss in that Land.

I have no doubt at all as I know it is meant for every living being.

-Verses of Praise on Pratyutpanna Samadhi

13

There is no query on sins and blessings, the timespan of our practice and the number of recitations.

Just recite Namo Amitabha Buddha.

Do not harbour any doubts!

-Verses of Praise on Dharma Work

  信知自身是具足烦恼凡夫,善根薄少,流转三界,不出火宅;

  一种不免死者;

意在专心回不回;
